In the East China School District, we believe that quality
education is a responsibility shared by home, school, students, and
community. This philosophy makes quality education an exciting, dynamic
process as well as a collaborative effort.
The East China School District has refined its elementary
learning standards for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. These
standards define what students are expected to know and be able to do after
completing the work for each grade.
The standards set high expectations for all students and are
based upon our conviction that all students can learn and succeed. The
purpose of grade level standards is to communicate to students, parents, and the
community exactly what we expect students to learn. Further, they are
designed to challenge students to achieve their highest potential and to
encourage them to develop responsibility for their own learning.
Each East China elementary teacher and administrator worked
together in collaborative groups to develop the standards. National and
state standards, as well as local expertise, shaped their direction.
District elementary standards will remain in draft form to allow us to continue
to refine them.
